Paddling Basics is a fun class for those new to the sport or for those transitioning from canoes to kayaks or kayaks to canoes.

In this three to four hour class we will show how to load and tie down your boat. We’ll cover those skills needed for safely lifting carrying and launching the boat, getting in from the shore or dock, forward paddle stroke, spinning the boat around on the spot, stopping, paddling a figure of eight course, reverse paddling, returning to shore or dock and getting out.

In addition we will go over basic safety skills and discuss equipment, first aid and the environment, access, boat design and purpose. This class is similar to the British Canoe Union (BCU) 1 Star Training course. This class has been designed by a BCU Coach and is intended to lay down a solid foundation of the basic set of safe paddling techniques and tools on which all paddlers rely upon.
